Abdulbasith Sijuade Akinyemi-Eshilokun is a versed Author, Health Enthusiast, Community Development Strategist, Entrepreneur, Public Servant and humanitarian.

Following the loss of his elder brother to complications of severe malaria, he was inspired to help indigent families to prevent loss of lives due to preventable and treatable illnesses. This led to the birth of his Initiative, The Health Volunteers Nigeria Initiative. This is an organization committed to enhancing healthcare in underserved communities, hard to each areas and among Nigerians with low income. Since the birth of the Organization, over 10,000 people across 18 communities spanning Abuja, Lagos, Ogun, Edo, Sokoto and Oyo States have directly benefited from free basic Medical services which has helped them stay healthy, prevent diseases or treat ailments. These services include diagnostic tests, medical consultation, treatment, offset of Medical bills and distribution of insecticide treated Mosquito Nets to pregnant women.

Notably, in 2021, he initiated a 12-month Community Health & Development Project in Lagos tagged, Project “Ilera Agboyi”. On this project, 1,210 residents of Communities in Agboyi Township, Ketu Lagos had access to free primary healthcare services. 300 persons had access to free eye screening and 119 prescribed corrective lenses were given out. 210 persons benefited from free genotype screening and genetic counseling and at least 100 pregnant women were supported with Insecticide treated Mosquito Nets to protect them from congenital malaria which can present with severe and life threatening complications.

 

In 2021, he also facilitated a partnership with Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Nigeria to host a digital skills training for 40 young people in Mushin Local Government, Lagos. Trainees gained valuable knowledge in UI/UX design, Basic Computer Operation and Web development.

Abdulbasith serves on the board of Voices in STEM Ng & Collective Social Support Network Initiative and is the immediate past Vice President of the African Changemakers Initiative, Nigeria Chapter. He is the Secretary, Lagos Community Youth Development Initiative, Mushin

Local Government Chapter. He also serves on the Nigeria management team of the Young African Leaders Forum, YALF and was the inaugural Deputy Coordinator of the Young African Leaders Initiative, YALI (Lagos Hub).

Abdulbasith earned the Young African Leaders Initiative, Lagos Community Health Award in 2019 for initiating life-changing projects that improved the health outcomes of people in the grassroots. In 2020, he was recognized by Opportunities Hub as one of the top 100 most influential young people in Africa.

Abdulbasith also volunteers actively for over 10 charitable organizations. Some of which, he holds strategic positions relating to Community Organizing, planning and project management. Abdulbasith is the Author of the book, “I Don Wake Up”, a memoir through which he shared

personal life experiences to help other young people navigate life and make sense out of it. When he is not working or volunteering, he reads, plays board games or engages in meaningful conversations.
